About Me
Hi, I’m James Christmas, your ACT candidate for Tāmaki.
I am a barrister specialising in public law and national security. I spent a decade working at the highest levels of the New Zealand Government, including as a senior adviser to Prime Ministers John Key and Bill English.
I have a traditional view of the role of an electorate MP. You deserve someone who is easy to reach, quick to act, and willing to roll up their sleeves to solve problems.
If you give me your electorate vote this year, I will be a visible and accessible local MP. I’ll work closely with our local representatives, fly the flag for Tāmaki in Parliament, and cut through bureaucracy to get things done.
Whether it’s improving infrastructure, protecting our beaches, or tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, my door will always be open.
When Tāmaki elected Brooke van Velden in 2023, voters showed the country that sending an ACT MP to Parliament can help make a centre-right government stronger and better.
My Five Priorities
Experienced and Effective for Tāmaki
1
Tāmaki's Effective Voice in Government
Influence decisions. Cut through bureaucracy. Pull the levers to get things done for Tāmaki. Work alongside local representatives every day to ensure our community gets the very best.
2
Safer Streets and Safer Shops
Stop Tāmaki being seen as easy pickings. Back business associations and community patrols. Where local problems need specific solutions, push for reforms that deliver results fast.
3
Balance the Books
ACT is the only party honest about the scale of New Zealand’s spending problem. Get back to surplus. Stop loading the bill onto the next generation.
4
A Smaller, Smarter State
Cut red tape. Reform the public sector. Focus government on the basics done well, so communities and businesses can get on with it.
5
A Future for Tāmaki's Next Generation
Support productivity, economic growth, and housing affordability, so our kids and grandkids can build their futures here in New Zealand — not overseas.
Tāmaki deserves an experienced and effective MP.
Please lend me your electorate vote on 7 November.
